The ability to work and communicate around the globe is paramount to the success of our company. Americans need to understand that we live in a great country but there are also a plethora of great countries around the globe. Exchange programs are an excellent way for students to not only learn a new language but also gives them a clear advantage in the job market.

Well, not that I was actually going to Mike's this week or anything, but they just make me ill. An IP address is one part of a protocol suite known as TCP/IP. There are various other components to TCP/IP, such as TFTP, Telnet, etc, but for now we'll just focus on your question.

An IP address is a numeric (or hexidecimal, in the case of IPv6) address consisting of four octets. It is used in conjunction with something called a subnet mask.
Network cards by themselves cannot understand IP addresses. Instead, they use MAC (Media Access Protocol) addresses, which again is a unique hexadecimal address. TCP/IP has another component that translates between between IP and MAC addresses, while a better know component, DNS (Domain Naming Service) translates between human-friendly names like yahoo.com and IP addresses.

I can assure you that MAC addresses have didly-squat to do with Apple Mac's, except for when the Mac's use TCP/IP instead of the now defunct AppleTalk network protocol!

The functions look OK, but I think it's more a question of how they're being called. For example, does top.helpframe always exist? That kind of syntax doesn't work in all browsers: for example, internet explorer deals with frames differently from everything else…

One thing that jumps out at me is MACAddressBlur: it looks as though it should be called with a field, e.g. onchange="javascript:MACAddressBlur(this);" — are you sure it isn't being called with "MACAddressBlur(this.value)"? That might crash it. It's going to be something like that.

Also, the F parameter that's being passed to chkMacLen appears to need to be a form; check that one, too…

Mac address filtering alone is not secure. You can easily intercept packets and extract the mac address then dummy the mac address to your computer thus granting you entry.

I recently started picking up some weird entries in my firewall log: kernel: arplookup 26.XXX.XXX.XXX failed: host is not on local network There are at least at dozen entries, all to different IP’s within DISANET26. I couldn’t help but be curious as to what was going on so I fired up Wireshark and began capturing packets to try and find out where it was coming from. Turns out it’s my brand new HTC sensation with all but a handful of apps installed (standard google apps + other apps I’ve used in the past) – I don’t even have it rooted yet. Wireshark shows a Broadcast ARP packet coming from the sensation’s mac address, but logs it as coming from the DoD IP in question. The target is the gateway (pfsense router). I've had similar problems. One thing I can tell you is that hiding your MAC address is pointless. There's not a thing people can do with it, and don't believe the rumors.

But they can block anyone using their connection that is the best solution .most of the routers have settings to block some ones MAC address
